My two greatest passions are music and painting. Making Music documents my journey of combining the two into the ultimate creative experience.

Collaborating with local venues and bands, I arrive at a concert with a blank canvas and work to the energy of the music, the musicians, and the audience to produce a fully-completed oil painting by the end of the show. Making Music seeks to enhance the live music experience and make fine art more accessible to the general public, while creating a unique body of work that appeals to art-lovers, music-lovers, and everyone in between.

From the shadows of an alleyway or behind curtains side-stage, and with nothing but overwhelming joy, these pieces were made.

  • 2021

Making Music was born in the Summer of 2021 when I was awarded an Undergraduate Research Award from the University of Kansas. For several months, I worked in a variety of media, styles, and techniques to explore the best way to capture a performing musician through art.

  • 2022

During my last year at the University of Kansas I teamed up with the University’s performing arts center, the Lied Center of Kansas. Painting mostly performances in their jazz series, I began to create a consistent body of work and imagine a greater potential for Making Music.

  • 2024-25

During Summer 2024 I was awarded ArtsKC’s Inspiration Grant, aimed to support ambitious projects of risk, growth, and change for the artist and projects that make a positive impact on the community. I will be collaborating with a variety of local musicians, venues, and events as I work to make unique paintings and make fine art more accessible to the general public. Stay tuned, as Making Music grows and evolves over the next few months!
